Project Update
- May 4, 2006
EMI has just finished and delivered the report and design for the Master Plan and the buildings in the first phase, which include the dormitory and the training center. The ministry has begun construction of the workshop and is hoping to begin construction on the Phase one buildings soon.

Original Project Scope
From this project’s application we learn that, “Ethiopia is the second most populous black nation in Sub-Sahara Africa with a population of 70,000,000. Over 51% of this population is under 15 years of age. Ethiopia faces serious threats for its future existence, including HIV/Aids, environmental degradation, ethnic conflict, corruption and human rights violations, and the marginalization of women and children.”

Our host organization in Ethiopia believes that the future of Ethiopia – of reaching Ethiopia – depends on reaching its children.

To that end, this project will become a strategic, national training center affecting the lives of every adult that desires to engage in the development of children – parents, pastors teachers, and public leaders who determine public policy. As a residential institute, child workers and teachers may come to build and improve their teaching skills and parents may come to improve their parenting abilities.

The campus will be located in Sendafa Town about 36km from Addis Ababa. Eventually this campus will include a conference center, classrooms, dining hall, library, dormitories, administrative offices, recreation spaces, and agricultural development. The eMi team will be charged with surveying the land (approx 25 acres), developing the architectural program and site master plan, and designing the first priority building (to be determined from the above list).

This is a ground-breaking initiative to affect the future of an entire country – will you be a part of touching the lives of children for generations?
