Conference Center for the Deaf
EMI Project 5494
April 16 - 27, 2009
Project Scope
The deaf in the Middle East are often misunderstood and treated as outcasts. Deaf children are sometimes hidden by parents to avoid family shame and approximately one-half of the deaf adults in this peaceful Arab country are illiterate. There are an estimated 700,000 deaf people within the minority Christian population. A local ministry has been serving the needs of this group for almost 20 years and has established outreach points in a dozen areas. They introduce the Gospel message to the nominal Christian deaf and train deaf ministers to reach out to their own deaf communities.
The ministry has now purchased land where they will expand their vision. Goals for this property include establishing a conference center, a deaf children's orphanage, a boarding school for the deaf and a vocational training complex. They currently need a master plan for the property and the design of the conference center.
This is a great opportunity to serve an established ministry sharing the Gospel among the local deaf community and teaching vocational skills to help the deaf find employment and improve their standard of living. Would you consider joining us?
