Orphanage Expansion - Youth Ministry Center
Hines Ugandan Ministries
EMI Project 5496
September 13 - 26, 2009
Original Project Scope
In a village located about 190 kilometers northeast of Kampala, Hines Ugandan Ministries (HUM) brings the message of hope with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by ministering to the spiritual, physical, and practical needs of widows, orphans and needy children of Kamonkoli, a village in the northeastern part of Uganda. The ministry serves approximately 200 children in a sponsorship program as well as currently housing 16 children in it's orphanage homes. Educational, medical, food, and household needs are provided for by HUM for all of their sponsored children through regular home visits. Up to 400 community children participate in weekly AWANA clubs for spiritual teaching and HUM has now started a primary Christian school in partnership with a local church.
HUM is ready to centralize its growing ministries by building a ministry outreach center on the same 9-acre parcel of land where the orphanage homes are located. The ministry center would house offices, a medical clinic, vocational training workshop for sponsored youth, a three-grade primary school, and temporary housing (dormitories) for visiting missions teams and ministry youth who visit the campus on vacation from their boarding schools. In addition, some members of a church in Colorado who partner with HUM are undertaking to set up a business where alumni of the orphanage can be trained and find employment. The profits of the business will exclusively support the on-going ministry of HUM and help sustain it into the long-term. While designing the ministry outreach center, the EMI team will also assist HUM by completing a feasibility study of four parcels of land which are being considered for procurement to set up the business.
