The African University Phase 2 Survey & Master Plan
Parole D'Espoir (Word of Life) Foundation
EMI Project 5501

February 11 - 23, 2010

Original Project Scope
College education is not something that is readily available to all people in Burkina Faso. Furthermore, a Christian education is rarely available to students in Western Africa. According to the Association of African Universities, there are only 213 universities in the entire African continent, and very few of these teach Christian principles. Burkina Faso and Africa are in need of a University that is able to teach an educating curriculum partnered with the Word of God.

The African University- The Light of Hope is being established to meet that need. Parole D'Espoir Foundation has been laboring in the region for many years, contributing to the spread of the gospel and caring for orphans and destitute children. Now the Foundation intends to help meet the needs for higher level Christian education. Some of the first students of the University will come directly from that children's home sponsored by Parole D'Espoir. The national government is very supportive and welcomes this worthy project.

Originally the vision was to establish a 5000 student university, but the vision has expanded to 30,000 students. In early 2009, EMI sent a team to develop a master plan for The African University as well as Phase 1 building designs (which will serve the first 500 students). Upon reaching the site, the team quickly assessed that the allocated land was not enough to serve the future needs of the University. Now the government has allocated and deeded an additional 500 acres of land and EMI is being called upon once again to come and assist by surveying the new land, updating the overall Master Plan, and investigating site conditions and proposing a phased design for wastewater stabilization ponds, water supply, and storm water needs. Please prayerfully consider taking part in this needed step for the future of Africa.
